"Why should I book a guide trip?"

It's a fair question, and one I'm often asked by both beginner and veteran fly fishers. Taking a guide trip is a significant investment in resources and time, so it only makes sense to want to be sure it's worthy of such an expense! 

For beginning fly fishers, the guide trip is incredibly useful for a number of reasons.  If this is a sport someone wants to continue to do, and eventually do on their own, then a solid foundation of mechanics and knowledge goes a long way.  A guide trip is the perfect opportunity to learn about everything from casting to which flies to use, and then put those skills to use afterwards!  Fly fishing isn't easy, and if it was I probably wouldn't have a job.  Shortening a typically steep learning curve by hiring a guide makes for a fun and productive day for the fisher. 

When it comes to more experienced anglers, the guide trip can still be quite useful!  For folks that have spent some time fly fishing before that can often mean fine tuning one particular aspect of the sport.  That could mean focusing on improving a hook-set, learning a new stretch of water, or anything else! 

Practical uses aside, a guide trip is worthwhile because it's camaraderie on the water with kindred spirits.  A fly fishing guide can be everything from a comedian, to a therapist, friend, and fish caddy. The day on the water with a guide is always a positive experience filled with laughs, learning, and hopefully fish in the net.
