We take a very different approach to guiding Ohio and Pennsylvania steelhead. Starting in November we'll head to the PA streams because the fish here are a variety that run in the fall and winter. Across the border into the Buckeye State, those fish tend to enter the tribs in greater numbers in late winter and spring. Now, that doesn't mean it isn't possible to catch Ohio fish in November and a PA fish in April, but for our trips it's all about maximizing the odds! We won't take our anglers into a situation where the odds are working against us, because steelhead fishing can be tough.  When it comes to "peak" seasons, typically in Pennsylvania that comes from Thanksgiving through Christmas, and in Ohio it's the end of March and early April. What makes steelhead so tricky is that they are very weather-dependent, much more than trout. If October is unseasonably chilly and accompanied by heavy rains, the peak PA season might come a little early. On the flip side, if it stays hot with limited rain the fish will still be staging in the lower portions of the drainages awaiting the big rains to kickstart their migration. Towards the tail end of peak season, an early cold snap like last year can mean the streams start to ice over. No matter how the weather shakes out, we're always keeping a finger on the pulse of what can put each of our guests into as many opportunities as possible.
