Recent Trip Report

That cool breeze that's been present the last few weeks is the first sign that fall is right around the corner!   For the trout, that means a renewed vigor resulting in excellent days out on the water again.  Across the state water temperatures are slowly starting to drop back to safe levels and the fish are actively feeding on a variety of bugs in early efforts to start fattening up for winter! 

Fall, while clearly the prelude to winter, acts as somewhat of a second act for trout anglers.  Late summer is a tough time to target the brook, brown, and rainbows that we love thanks to low water and unsafe temperatures.  That all changes in September with the first hint of a season change! 

Water cools as nightly lows drop into the 50's and more frequent rain ensures there's plenty of volume to keep oxygen aplenty and the trout happy!  This time of year also sees an uptick in bug activity.  BWO's come back around and terrestrials continue to remain productive.  Aside from this there is a renewed influx in caddis hatches, and as fish start to spawn, eggs will become a big part of a trout's diet.
