With the low water, steelhead are currently congregating in the deepest pools where they can find refuge to wait for the next big rain. The action is best early in the morning before the sun gets high and makes the fish a bit spooky. Cloudy days extend the bite further into morning, so timing up your day of fishing is critical during this time of year. For the next few weeks Ohio and Pennsylvania will start to go in different directions in terms of fishing quality. The "peak" of the PA run is behind us and fish are starting to head back out to Lake Erie. That doesn't mean there aren't fish around, but it certainly won't be like fall and early winter. Ohio has a different strain of steelhead that run more in the spring, so while the PA season is waning, things will heat up in the Buckeye State! Some hot flies on recent trips include:
