Recent Trip Report

The warmer weather we've been experiencing has breathed a second life into the winter steelhead season!  Conditions during this time of year would usually be defined by icy streams and slushy drifts with constant rod maintenance to combat frozen guides.  Instead, we are spending our days shedding base layers and enjoying conditions more akin to November than January!

Despite the warmth, fishing has been best from about 10 AM until 3 PM, when the sun is highest and days at their warmest.  Focus your efforts during these hours and enjoy the rare occasion to sleep in!

​Steelhead action remains fantastic as we roll into 2020.  One of the main obstacles right now is the continuation of heavy angling pressure, which can be attributed to nice weather.  Weekend crowds are suffocating, so if possible, avoid the popular access areas during these times.  Weekdays open up quite a bit more water and by extension, more fish.  Recent rains have brought fresh steelhead into the tributaries, something that doesn't usually happen in January, and it has led to a really nice mix of chromers and dark fish.
