Wildwood Outfitters Blog and Fishing Report
With temperatures dropping fall fishing is creeping ever closer. That means some of the most exciting months of the year is right around the bend! A few of the local DHALO streams are scheduled to receive a final stocking of trout next week, but the fishing has been stellar everywhere in the region. Thanks to a fairly mild summer and plenty of rain, more than a fish stockies made it through the dog days unscathed and they are offering up nice opportunities for catching without needing to drive incredibly far!
With that said the North Central part of the state has been electric of late, with both brown and brook trout exhibiting their spawning colors and attacking flies with reckless abandon. Most of this fishing has been for wild fish, meaning the area around these streams is a bit off the beaten path providing some terrific backdrops for the days fishing adventures. This trend should continue through the next month plus, and in fact it should only get better! Steelhead in Lake Erie are staging near creek mouths with a few coming in overnight and slipping back out pre-dawn. A scouting trip a few days ago showed a few fish in the deepest pools, but all were smaller early run fish we call "jacks." The season is still a few weeks away as we need more rain, cooler temperatures, and shorter days. Once it's here though, it'll be game on until April! Best of luck out there!
