The dog days of summer are in full swing... 

With significant rain a distant memory, local trout streams are low and warm. Despite tough conditions, fishing remains good if you know where to look! Summer holding runs are still producing on the stocked streams and the native brookies are hungry as ever if you can be stealthy enough in your approach! Tributaries with cooler water are a good place to check out as are the deeper pools that offer the trout a reprieve from the blistering sun and predator from above.

The trout are responding well to terrestrials like hoppers and flying ants, but nymphs are producing a whole lot more fish. Prince nymphs in #16 and #18 and CDC Pheasant Tails in the same sizes will yield results on the stocked streams, and for the brookies squirmy worms in red and hot pink have been the ticket! With water levels so low it's best to fish the nymphs on a Euro rig or with a dry fly as an indicator. There have been some sporadic hatches of caddis in the mornings and evenings but this is a pretty sparse time of year for the bugs. Focus your efforts in the early morning or late evenings and be sure to revive any fish caught to ensure their survival! Fingers crossed for some rain and cooler temps!
