Wildwood Outfitters Blog and Fishing Report
Decided to spend Memorial Day weekend aka the least crowded fishing weekend of the year fishing Kettle Creek in Potter County. The weather was hot and the idea was to hit some of the famous green drake hatches. We arrived at the lower section of the DHFFO section at 10 AM to find 3 other cars parked there. After rigging up and pushing upstream we found all 3 owners of the cars (and what seemed like 50 of their closest friends) had all gone upstream. Not the best start. We walked upstream past what we knew were productive sections to try and find virgin water and did so closer to the center of the 1.7 mile special regulation area. It wasn't until here where the realization set in that the water was much higher than anticipated and far too cold for the wet wading gear we had on. It's a difficult spot when the air temp is 90 and the water temp is 50! Be freezing or sweat to death...the choice is yours!
After hooking and losing a few fish on a BH PT, we pushed further upstream to try and find some more manageable water. Once that water was found, a few fish started to show themselves. Most of the action was on nymphs (San Juan's, Swimming Prince, and BH PT) despite some march browns, cahills, and caddis coming off. The highlight of the trip was a brilliantly colored brown that was either streambred or had been in the stream some time feeding on naturals.

As a reader, I find the account of the fishing trip at Kettle Creek during Memorial Day weekend highly interesting. The unexpected crowded fishing spots and the challenges posed by the higher water levels and cold temperatures create a compelling narrative. I'm intrigued to learn more about the fishing experience and the eventual outcome.
