Being a professional in the fly fishing industry isn't limited to those with titles like guide, influencer, or shop owner. Thanks to the golden age of technology, it's possible for fly fishing pro's to gain exposure with the click of an Instagram post. One of those industry leaders who is seizing this opportunity is Kayla Dickenson, otherwise known as The Fly Fishing Wife. Her Instagram posts and captivating website blogs have connected her with anglers across the country as she shares in her journey as a fly fisher.

Fly fishing has historically been a sport populated mostly by men. From the old school Field & Stream catalogs to more recent Outdoor Channel shows, men have typically been highlighted more than women. That's all starting to change, and it's thanks to anglers like Kayla. She has been able to create a vast network of female fly fishers and it's a trend that is sure to boost the participation of women in our sport, to the benefit of everyone!

"As a female angler, I think being able to connect with other females helps to boost confidence in a predominantly male sport. Because of all the girls I've met, especially through social media, it doesn't feel like I've just been fly fishing since the summer."

For Kayla, fly fishing is a sanctuary that she gets to share with her husband. It's made them grow closer together, as they have joined in the joys of catching beautiful fish! The benefits of fly fishing far outweigh the simple act of catching bluegill or rainbow trout (two of her favorite fish!) A decrease in stress level, a tenfold growth in patience, and seeing the world through a different lens are just a few of the wonderful byproducts to be enjoyed by the fly fisher.

Social media is a powerful tool. The ability to harness it, and share the joys of fly fishing with the world is what makes Kayla a true pioneer. It's not just about the memory of her first brown trout that measured a little over 15 inches, but rather the impact that fish can have by Kayla sharing it with the fly fishing community. It's that sense of community that keeps her focused on hungry to share more of her journey. "Talking to others within the fly fishing world and thriving off the support they give is nothing short of amazing", says Kayla.
