Wildwood Outfitters Blog and Fishing Report
Each season has its own uniqueness that makes it desirable for anglers, and fall is no different. In terms of trout, the hot temps of summer are a distant memory and fish are now actively in search of their next meal. Perhaps even more importantly, they can be safely targeted by us without worry that the stress of a fight will mean their demise. A combination of falling water temps and rising water levels create a perfect combination of conditions that lead to some great fly fishing! It's not just trout that bring us out on the water, however! Steelhead begin their upstream run into the Lake Erie tribs and provide anglers with unforgettable moments pursuing this supersized fish. While there are plenty of reports to suggest September and October are great times to be out, the run really gets rolling in November and only gets better in December! The opportunity to combo multiple days for both trout and steelhead isn't something that can be done in many places but we're blessed to enjoy such a luxury in PA. The diversity of fish available and the gorgeous scenery combine to make fall a truly special time to spend on the water. Whether it be the mountains of Central PA in search of stunning brook trout or the Erie tributaries hoping for the tug of a 30-inch steelhead, there's no better opportunity to enjoy fly fishing in the Keystone State!
