Christmas is Coming

Holidays can be tough for the  person looking to buy for a fishing or outdoor fanatic. It's so difficult to know what your angler has and even harder to know what he/she might want. Going into a fly shop or big box retailer can be even more daunting as rows and rows of flies, nets, waders, books, fly tying materials, and reels are staring back at you daring you to gamble and pick one. You want to buy something your angler will enjoy, and fishing gear and guide trips can make for perfect gifts if you know what to look for!  Here's a list of a few ideas to make sure it's nothing but shocked smiles at how well you did this Christmas season. ​

1.) Guide Trips
A guide trip is something an angler will rarely purchase for themselves unless they are traveling to new water and time might be an issue. While rarely purchased, they are much appreciated. It's a great way for even the most experienced of fishing veterans to learn a skill, learn some new water, or just have a fish caddy to tie all the knots and net all the fish. ​I'm guilty of spending time at Field & Stream, Cabela's, or even Giant Eagle thumbing through this month's periodicals.  For some reason we are often hesitant to take the plunge and subscribe to these publications, but will then purchase an individual copy religiously every month or season! Take note of what your gift receiver likes to read and get him/her an annual subscription.

​This one is a bit tougher, but can add a very nice sentimental twist. There's some weird obsession fly fishers have with organizing and sorting our gear, and that often leads to needing more fly boxes. The word "need" is used loosely, as we never really need most of the toys and trinkets we get. With that said, hopping on a website like Etsy and looking up engraved wooden fly boxes can make for a very enjoyable Christmas. In fact, my wife got me a personalized fly box on our wedding day and it's one of my most cherished pieces of gear. 

4.) Guide Trips
​For all the reasons mentioned about, and also comedic relief. A personal knot tier, fish netter, joke teller, and chauffeur for the day? The question is who wouldn't want that for Christmas!?

5.) Guide Trips
