Wildwood Outfitters Blog and Fishing Report
Holidays can be tough for the person looking to buy for a fishing or outdoor fanatic. It's so difficult to know what your angler has and even harder to know what he/she might want. Going into a fly shop or big box retailer can be even more daunting as rows and rows of flies, nets, waders, books, fly tying materials, and reels are staring back at you daring you to gamble and pick one. You want to buy something your angler will enjoy, and fishing gear and guide trips can make for perfect gifts if you know what to look for! Here's a list of a few ideas to make sure it's nothing but shocked smiles at how well you did this Christmas season. 1.) Guide Trips A guide trip is something an angler will rarely purchase for themselves unless they are traveling to new water and time might be an issue. While rarely purchased, they are much appreciated. It's a great way for even the most experienced of fishing veterans to learn a skill, learn some new water, or just have a fish caddy to tie all the knots and net all the fish. It's a surefire way to excite the angler you're buying for and you have to look no further than Wildwood Outfitters for your needs! We offer personalized gift certificates that are sure to excite come Christmas morning. Side note: If the guided trip is for a significant other, getting the trip for the both of you is always a good route to take. Often I hear, "I would love to take my husband/wife but it would be a nightmare trying to teach them." Sometimes when teaching someone new the great sport of fly fishing, the info just needs to come from someone you're not married to or dating. Then moving forward it's an activity you can do together! 2.) Subscription to a Fly Fishing Magazine I'm guilty of spending time at Field & Stream, Cabela's, or even Giant Eagle thumbing through this month's periodicals. For some reason we are often hesitant to take the plunge and subscribe to these publications, but will then purchase an individual copy religiously every month or season! Take note of what your gift receiver likes to read and get him/her an annual subscription. 3.) Personalized Fly Gear This one is a bit tougher, but can add a very nice sentimental twist. There's some weird obsession fly fishers have with organizing and sorting our gear, and that often leads to needing more fly boxes. The word "need" is used loosely, as we never really need most of the toys and trinkets we get. With that said, hopping on a website like Etsy and looking up engraved wooden fly boxes can make for a very enjoyable Christmas. In fact, my wife got me a personalized fly box on our wedding day and it's one of my most cherished pieces of gear. 4.) Guide Trips For all the reasons mentioned about, and also comedic relief. A personal knot tier, fish netter, joke teller, and chauffeur for the day? The question is who wouldn't want that for Christmas!? 5.) Guide Trips The last, and arguably most important idea on our list is the professionally guided fly fishing trip. Wildwood Outfitters' full day trips offer a delicious lunch to accentuate our time on the water. For the angler in your life, this is tantamount to a spa day of pampering. Sure the weather can be cold, rainy, snowy, and/or windy, but otherwise it really is just like a day spent with hot rock massages and pedicures. Pickup service is available meaning all your husband, wife, son, daughter, friend, or colleague has to do is wake up and answer the door when I show up. At Wilwood Outfitters we can take care of everything else to make sure your day on the water is successful, memorable, and full of Christmas joy!
